Louis Campbell’s Sheridan Yellowjackets took a step forward last season. Sheridan picked up 5 wins and made a playoff appearance. Sheridan has 10 starters returning from last season and is looking to improve on the win total from last season. Sheridan resides in the tough 6A West so clinching a playoff spot could prove to be a difficult task this season, but it is never wise to doubt the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets have a ball control type of offense that does not put the ball in the air that often but is effective in sustaining drives and wearing out opposing defenses. Fans of the Yellowjackets should look for Emmanuel Wheeler and Jackson Coleman to see plenty of carries this season. Coleman has good hands and can be difficult to bring down. Wheeler rushed for 252 yards last season and tacked on 2 touchdowns. If the Sheridan offense can sustain drives then the Yellowjackets have a chance of challenging for a playoff spot in the 6AWest.
Sheridan has 6 starters returning on the defensive side of the ball. The Yellowjackets must find a way to cut the number of points that the defense has been giving up. Last season, Sheridan surrendered 31 points per game and that is a number that must be reduced to have a shot of clinching a playoff spot. On the defensive side of the ball, McKinley Williams is a player that is worth keeping an eye on. Williams picked off two passes and had 65 tackles from the linebacker spot last season. The defense has the potential to be and improved unit and that could help Sheridan grab a playoff spot.
Sheridan is going to have a tough time in the 6AWest but that does not mean that they will not grab a playoff spot. The Sheridan defense has the potential to be a very good unit. The Yellowjackets’ offense will need to find a way to sustain drives and keep the defense off the field. The conference is tough but it would not shock me to see Sheridan grab a playoff spot.
