The 2018 season will be a new beginning for the Gravette Lions. Doug Greenwood takes over as head coach for the Lions after Bill Harrelson resigned in April. The Lions reached the playoffs but lost a heartbreaker to Heber Springs in the opening round of the playoffs. Even with the loss in the opening round, it was still a solid season for Gravette, finishing with a record of 6-5 last season.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Lions will have six returning starters from the 2017 season. The player to watch on the offensive side of the ball for the Lions is quarterback Tajae White. White was impressive last season, passing for almost 800 yards and ran for over 900 yards. The Lions have the potential on the offensive side to light up the scoreboards every Friday night. Gravette should expect to see the Lions continue to mix the run with the pass.
The defensive side of the ball is only returning two starters from the 2017 season. The player to watch on the defensive side of the ball is Colton Grimes. Grimes will be playing the middle linebacker position and has a nose for the football. Grimes had over 70 tackles last season and should improve upon those numbers this season.
Gravette fans should expect to see an exciting football team, as the season moves closer to the playoffs. Once all three phases of the game start to gel, then this should be a playoff team. The Gravette Lions should be a playoff team; however it may not be a deep playoff run.
