The Eddie Robinson Classic does not have a shortage for powerhouse teams. Rayville High School and Northwest High School will square off on August 26th. Northwest is coming off a season where they 12-1 and are looking to keep the momentum rolling this season. The Rayville Hornets are coming off a 5-9 season but closed it out with a nice playoff run. Both Rayville and Northwest have tremendous potential this season and fans will get a great chance to observe both teams this weekend.
The Rayville Hornets may be coming off a 5-9 season but they have plenty of potential to build upon. Rayville has an impressive, young quarterback returning this season. Hornets’ fans should look for junior quarterback James Powell Jr. to have another big season. James threw for over 1,600 yards last season and had 14 touchdown passes. If Powell Jr. can cut down on the interceptions he could have a monster year for the Hornets. Rayville should improve on the 2016 season and challenge for a playoff spot once again and the game against Northwest will be a great test to see how far the Hornets have come.
The Northwest Raiders had an excellent 2016 season and are looking to build off the momentum from 2016. The Raiders have an impressive wide receiver in the form of August Pitre returning for the 2017 season. Pitre racked up 515 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns last season and has the potential to build on those numbers this season. If the Raiders can get the offense to clicking like last season then this could be a dangerous team to contend with. Rayville and Northwest should be an excellent contest to watch this week.
