C-Dawgs have their eyes on the District 2-3A prize
Carroll Bulldogs Head Football Coach Jackie Hamilton makes “no bones” about it when he and his C-Dawgs set the goals for a successful 2017 season. Carroll is back and ready to take the next step.
“We are looking at a shot at winning District,” Hamilton said. “Do that, advance in the playoffs and hopefully get to the dome.”
Carroll will look to sophomore quarterback Cedric Woods (5’10”, 160 pounds) will be counted on to lead the Bulldog offense.
Joining Woods in the backfield will be senior running back Fantoryian Pendleton (5’8”, 165 pounds).
The Bulldogs’ receiving core will feature senior wide receiver Dakorrion Jackson, junior tight end Xylon Kirkpatrick (6’1”, 175 pounds), senior wide receiver SirTimothy Hollins (5’7”, 155 pounds) and sophomore wide receiver LaDarrius Goldsberry.
Coach Hamilton sees the “Battle in the Trenches” as a key component to Carroll’s success.
“We need to win both sides (Offensive line and Defensive Line) of the ball,” Hamilton said.
Carroll has a one of the top offensive linemen in the state in senior left guard Isaac Ellis (6’3”, 320 pounds), who returns for his fourth season as a starter on the Bulldogs’ offensive line.
Ellis will be counted on to lead an offensive line that will consist of junior left tackle Russell Brown, sophomore center Isaiah Taylor, right guard Xavier Guy (6’4”,weight n/a) and right tackle Kevin Hamilton (5’10”, 235 pounds).
The Bulldogs’ defense looks to have a 3-3-5 alignment that will hopefully keep the action in front of them and defend against the big pass.
The Carroll defensive line will have senior defensive tackle Jermiah Coleman (5’3”, 150 pounds), senior defensive end Michael Cameron (6’1”, 193 pounds) and senior defensive end JaMarcus Coleman (6’1”, 200 pounds).
The Bulldogs’ linebacker core features senior Derrick Logwood (5’11”, 200 pounds), Marcus Keys and sophomore CharTavion Arrington (6’0”, 185 pounds).
The Carroll secondary will be manned by sophomore strong safety Pakoyrie Goins, junior free safety Xylon Kirkpatrick (6’1”, 175 pounds), sophomore defensive back Cedric Woods (5’10”, 160 pounds), defensive back Zion Parker and senior defensive back Fantoryian Pendleton (5’8”, 165 pounds).
Senior SirTimothy Hollins (5’7”, 155 pounds) will handle the field goal and extra point kicking duties at Carroll while senior Derrick Logwood has been slated to be the Bulldogs’ punter. Sophmore Cedric Woods will be the holder on field goals and extra points while sophomore CharTavion Arrington will be the long snapper on punts, field goals and extra points.
Carroll has never been one to shy away from playing tough competition and the 2017 varsity football schedule is no different.
“Pre-District will be a great test for this team,” Hamilton said. “By the time we reach District 2-3A, we will know if we are pretending or contending.”
