The Carroll Bulldogs football program is looking to move forward as their new coach Alexander Washington returns to his alma mater and takes the reigns and hopes to move one of Monroe’s most proud and historic football programs in a positive direction.
Washington, nicknamed Tank, played offensive line for the Bulldogs in high school and was selected to the All-State team and then played for the University of Mississippi under Houston Nutt and current LSU coach Ed Orgeron.
In 2012, Washington got his start in coaching at the University of Louisiana at Monroe under former ULM coach Todd Berry as a graduate assistant which was the year that the Warhawks played in the Independence Bowl.
After two seasons at ULM, Washington moved on to coach at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
After returning to Northeast Louisiana as an assistant coach on Brad Bradshaw’s staff at Bastrop in 2015, Washington found his way home to Carroll in 2017 working as an assistant coach under previous coach Jackie Hamilton.
Junior quarterback Cedric Woods (5’10”, 175 pounds) will be counted on to run Carroll’s spread offense.
Woods will have plenty of weapons at his disposal in the Carroll skill positions with senior wide receiver Jamar Forbes, sophomore running back Montrelle Jones (5’5”, 140 pounds), junior wide receiver LaDarrius McFee (5’10”, 150 pounds), junior wide receiver Jacoby Brown and sophomore wide receiver Antonio Hollins.
Carroll’s offensive line will see the return of senior offensive guard Jaaric Keys (5’11”, 230 pounds) and offensive tackle Jacari Hamilton. Joining Keys and Hamilton on the Bulldogs’ offensive line is sophomore Jordan Lewis, junior offensive lineman Kelvin Hamilton (5’7”, 245 pounds) and junior offensive lineman Isaiah Taylor (5’11”, 198 pounds).
Coach Washington and his staff will utilize a 3-4 scheme on defense, and Carroll’s front seven will feature junior inside linebacker Char’tavion Arrington (6’0”, 204 pounds), sophomore inside linebacker Derrick Conner (6’0”, 150 pounds), senior outside linebacker Roderick Douglas, , senior defensive tackle J. Hamilton, junior nose tackle K. Hamilton, junior defensive tackle Taylor and junior outside linebacker Bobby Williams (5’7”, 155 pounds).
Senior strong safety Jackie Wallace, senior cornerback Zion Parker (6’1”, 175 pounds), junior free safety Ladarius McFee (5’10”, 150 pounds), junior cornerback Ladarius Goldsberry (6’2”, 165 pounds) and senior cornerback Zion Parker (6’1”, 175 pounds) will start in the Carroll defensive secondary.
The Bulldogs special teams see McFee at kicker and punter while Monrtelle Jones is slated to be Carroll’s kickoff and punt returner.
Carroll opens the 2018 season on the road as the Bulldogs will travel west on Interstate 20 to face the Woodlawn-Shreveport Knights at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium on Friday, August 31.
The Bulldogs will open a three-game homestand by hosting the Mansfield Wolverines on Friday, September 7 at James L. Thomas / Dorth E. Blade Memorial Stadium.
On Friday, September 14, the Lincoln Prep Panthers come to Carroll in week 3, and cross-town rival Neville Tigers are slated to invade Thomas – Blade Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 21.
Carroll will take to the road in week 5 as the Bulldogs travel to 2017 Class 2A semifinalist Many Tigers on Friday, September 28.
Carroll will open its District 2-3A schedule at home against the Sterlington Panthers in week 6 on Friday, October 5.
The Bulldogs will play a Thursday night game on September 11 as Carroll travels down Highway 165 to battle the 2017 Class 3A state runner-up Richwood Rams in a District 2-3A contest.
On Friday, October 19, the Bulldogs travel to Farmerville to face the Union Parish Fighting Farmers in another key district showdown.
Week nine will see the “Annual Baby Bayou Classic” as the Wossman Wildcats come to Thomas – Blade Memorial Stadium on Friday, October 26 in rivalry District 2-3A contest.
Carroll will close out its regular and District 2-3A schedules when the Bulldogs travel east on Interstate 20 to Tallulah to face the Madison Parish Jaguars on Friday, November 2.
