Shiloh Christian Saints, Lucky Number 8?
In the past, the Shiloh Christian Saints have done one thing very well, win. Josh Floyd is coming into his ninth year as head football coach and looks to rebound from an uncharacteristic 5-6 season. The Saints hope to compete for the programs eighth State Championship title.
Recently, Letterman Magazine was privileged enough to sit down with Coach Floyd and discuss the upcoming season.
“I’m excited and getting ready to roll. We are moving into the 5A-West Conference and are looking to open things up against Warren on August 27th at the Kick-off Classic hosted by Hooten’s. There is something special about the first ball game, it should be fun.”
The Saints want to improve this season and continue their winning ways. With seven state titles in the trophy case, many teams try to make a name for their program when stepping on the field against the Saints. “Any time you have been successful and been able to win some championships it puts a target on your chest,” says the coach.
In 2011, they had several injuries on back-to-back weeks, which allowed some of the younger players to get game time. Unfortunately, the Saints inexperience allowed many teams to enjoy wins at their expense.
The Saints have also made some changes on both sides of the ball, which they think will help them in the upcoming season.
Coach Floyd instills much more into his players than just how to be a great athlete. The Saints participate in many community initiatives and focus on teaching attributes such as integrity and character “That is very important for our program. At the end of the day we are trying to build these young men to get ready for life.” At Shiloh they concentrate on three angles, which include the spiritual side, academics, and athletics.
One thing that really gets the Saints pumped is their fans. According to Coach Floyd the parents do a lot of special things for the players each week. “We love are fans, they do a great job and make it a wonderful place to play for our kids.”
So, does Coach Floyd have a pre-game ritual? “I don’t really eat on game day, but for some reason I get a chocolate shake.”
As the players and coaches are gearing up for the season, Letterman Magazine is looking forward to watching the Saints come marching in!
