’17 Season Preview: Springdale Bulldogs

The Springdale Bulldogs have done nothing but improve over the past three seasons. The win totals have increased every year under head coach Zak Clark. The Bulldogs went to the playoffs in 2016 and increased the win total to four wins on the season. Springdale is looking to take that next step and advance further into November with a playoff run.

The Bulldogs offense has some key weapons coming for the 2017 season. Quarterback Layne Hutchins is back for his senior season and is looking to continue to improve. Hutchins passed for 18 touchdowns for over 2,200 yards last season. Hutchins will look to get the ball to wide receiver Alex Thompson. Thompson has the speed and the hands to really cause problems for the opposing defenses. The Springdale offense you should continue to put the points up in the 2017 season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Bulldogs’ fans should look for linebacker Tray Tolbert to continue to improve and possibly become an all-conference selection. Tolbert was in on 60 tackles a year ago and is looking to improve this season. The Bulldogs are looking to get the opposing offense off the field and continued improvement should lead to that.

Springdale has the talent to make the playoffs this season. A deep playoff run may not be in the cards, but Springdale has had the habit of surprising me the past few seasons and this season I would not be shocked to see a run. If the offense and defense can gel quickly, look for Springdale to surprise some fans in the 7-A West.
