’17 Season Preview: Siloam Springs Panthers

The past few seasons have been tough on the Siloam Springs Panthers. Siloam Springs finished 1-9 on the season in 2016. The Panthers are looking to build off of the 1-9 season and appear to have plenty of potential on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The Panthers should be a much more competitive team in 2017.

The Siloam Springs’ offense will only have two starters returning for the 2017 season. Panthers’ fans should look for L.T. Ellis to see some time at the quarterback position. Ellis has a strong arm and has the potential to lead the Panthers’ offense. Sustaining drives and avoiding the turnover will be key for the Panthers this season. Being able to sustain drives and turn avoiding turnovers could earn the Panthers a few more victories during the course of the season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Panthers’ fans should look for Luke Gumm to be a steady influence in the secondary. Gumm racked up 32 tackles last season and is looking to create more plays and track down the football in 2017. Siloam Springs has four starters returning on the defensive side of the ball, so they have some experience and can cause problems for the opposing offense. Forcing turnovers and three and outs will be a huge factor for the Panthers.

Forcing stops and turnovers could be a big factor in whether or not the Panthers can increase the win total this season. The potential is there to pick up four to five wins this season and possibly challenge for a playoff spot. It is simply a factor of taking one step at a time for the Panthers.
