The win totals for the Searcy Lions have increased every season for the past three seasons. Searcy has the potential to increase the win total this season after going 7-5 in 2016. Searcy is looking to go on a longer playoff run this season and push for a conference championship.
The Lions offense will have plenty of experience returning for the 2017 season. Searcy will have seven starters returning on the offensive side of the ball. The player to keep an eye on for Searcy fans from the offensive side of the ball is quarterback Mason Schucker. Shucker passed for over 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and is looking to have an even bigger season this season. If the Lions can get off to a good start, from an offensive perspective then this group could be a dangerous team on the offensive side of the ball.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions will have six starters returning for the 2017 season. Ben Donnell is the player to keep an eye on for Lions’ fans on the defensive side of the ball. Donnell racked up over 80 tackles last season and has the potential to once again pace the Lions with tackles again this season. The Lions should be a solid group on the defensive side of the ball and forcing turnovers and three and outs will be key for the defense this season. Reducing the 33 points per game from last season will have to be a goal for the Lions this season or advancing in the playoffs could be in jeopardy.
Searcy has the potential to challenge for the 6-A East conference championship, if they can stay healthy and the defense can reduce the number of points given up from last season. The offense has the potential to be solid and this is a team that should make the state playoffs and based on matchups could play for quite a few weeks in November.
