’17 Season Preview: Pine Bluff Zebras

Pine Bluff racked up another 6-A East conference championship last season, but missed out on a state championship game appearance after losing to Greenwood by a point. The Zebras are looking toward winning the 6-A East for the third straight year and getting back to War Memorial Stadium for the state championship game.

The Pine Bluff offense has five starters returning for the 2017 season. The player for Pine Bluff fans to keep an eye out for on the offensive side of the ball is running back Braylon Moody. Moody rushed for over 480 yards last season and punched the ball in the end zone six times last season. Pine Bluff should not have any problems finding the end zone. The Zebras have always found a way to be productive on the offensive side of the ball and this season should not be any different.

Pine Bluff’s defense will have seven starters returning for the 2017 season. Zebras’ fans should keep an eye on linebacker Isiah Singleton this season. Singleton earned all-state honors after racking up over 120 tackles on the season. Singleton, if he can avoid injury, has a good chance of earning all-state honors again this season. Pine Bluff fans have gotten used to seeing a strong defense and this season should not be one that expectations should be lowered.

The Pine Bluff Zebras are a traditional powerhouse in the state of Arkansas and this season should be a strong one for the Zebras. I expect the Zebras to contend for the 6-A East title and should go on a nice playoff run as well. Depending upon the matchups in the playoffs, this could be a team that will play at War Memorial Stadium at the end of the season.
