’17 Season Preview: Mountain Home Bombers

The Mountain Home Bombers took a major step in the right direction last season. The Bombers racked up four wins and clinched a playoff berth. The Bombers will have a new head coach this season in Bryan Mattox, but he has been associated with the Mountain Home school district and already is familiar with the players. Mountain Home is looking to continue to improve this season and with plenty of experienced players coming back, that is something that looks likely.

Mountain Home’s offense was able to grind victories last season and clinch a playoff berth. The Bombers have nine starters returning for the 2017 season. Mountain Home used a strong option game and even with the coaching change, fans can expect the offense to continue to use the option and maintain a strong ground game. Bombers’ fans should keep an eye fullback Junior Williams. Williams rushed for over 1,000 yards last season and is looking to punish opposing defenses with his physical running style. The Bombers’ offense should continue to be a solid component of the team and gives them a great shot at the playoffs.

The Bombers’ defense will be experienced going into the 2017 season. Mountain Home returns nine starters on the defensive side of the ball. Mountain Home fans should keep an eye on linebacker Riley Peters this season. Peters has been a three year starter at the linebacker position and his experience gives the defense a solid leader. If the Bombers’ defense can force some turnovers and force enough three and outs, the win total should see another boost this season.

The Bombers should be able to use the tremendous amount of experience to clinch a playoff berth this season. How far Mountain Home goes will be based on who they match up against in the playoffs. I expect a solid season from the Bombers and a good possibility of a playoff run.
