’17 Season Preview: Little Rock Parkview Patriots

The past eight years have been up and down for the Parkview Patriots. Little Rock Parkview created excitement by bringing in Brad Bolding to be the new head coach. Bolding had a great record, during his tenure that North Little Rock High School, going 63-30. The Parkview Patriots have plenty of experience returning and with a new head coach; excitement is building for this football team.

Parkview has eight starters returning on the offensive side of the ball. The Patriots went 1-8 on the season in 2016, but the potential is there to improve tremendously this season. Patriots’ fans should keep an eye on running back Zach Smith this season. Smith has excelled as a kick returner and this season he will get a chance to carry the ball some more. The Patriots’ offense has chance to surprise some people with how creative the offense can be. Parkview fans can look for an improved team on the offensive side of the ball.

Parkview will have nine starters returning on the defensive side of the ball this season. The Patriots will switch to a 3-4 this season, to take advantage of the quickness that they have on the defensive side of the ball. Parkview fans should keep an eye on Roderick Johnson along the defensive front. Johnson has good strength and quickness to play any of the positions along the defensive front. The defense should not have any trouble causing havoc to the opposing offenses during the course of the season.

Parkview has the potential to be a surprise playoff team out of the 5-A Central. The Patriots will need to execute well on both sides of the ball to have an opportunity to reach the playoffs. I will call for Parkview to increase the win total this season, they may not reach the playoffs, but this will be a solid group.
