The Little Rock Catholic Rockets reached the playoffs last season, but they only had three victories on the season. Little Rock Catholic is not devoid of talent and could prove to be a dangerous team in the 7-A Central. The Rockets earned a playoff appearance last season, by defeating Little Rock Central and earning an upset victory over Fort Smith Southside. Little Rock Catholic will look for a stronger start this season in an effort to once again make the playoffs.
Little Rock Catholic has one of the better running backs in the state in the form of Samy Johnson. Johnson rushed for almost 2,000 yards and punched the ball in the end zone 20 times. It will be tough for Johnson to improve upon the numbers from last season but his numbers should still be impressive. Little Rock Catholic’s offense has the potential to be dangerous and put some points on the scoreboard, especially if they can mix in some passing to go along with Johnson’s running.
An area of concern for the Rockets is that the defense must show improvement and get off of the field. Little Rock Catholic gave up 39 points per game last season, and forcing turnovers and three and outs will be a focus as the season approaches. Rockets’ fans should look for Trevor Karther to continue to serve at the linebacker position. Karther has a nose for the football and should be able to continue to make plays for the defense. Forcing three and outs will be huge for the Rockets.
The Rockets have the potential to gain a few more victories this season. Little Rock Catholic should make the playoffs again this season, but how far they go will be all based on what they do during the course of the season.
