The 2016 season was an impressive one for the Jonesboro Hurricanes. The Hurricanes went 9-2 and racked up a conference title in 2016. Jonesboro is looking to win back to back conference championships and go on a deeper run in the state playoffs this season.
The Hurricanes will have six starters returning on the offensive side of the ball this season. With all-state wide receiver Jonathan Adams having moved on to Arkansas State, Jonesboro fans should keep an eye on wide receiver Tate Lutes. Lutes runs good routes and at 6’2” has excellent size to create problems for the opposing defense. Hurricane fans should also keep an eye on offensive tackle Noah Gatlin. Gatlin is a beast on the offensive line and already has over 10 scholarship offers to play on Saturday. If the Jonesboro offense can stay consistent this is a team that can win the 6-A East and make a playoff run.
Jonesboro’s defense will have five starters returning on that side of the ball. The player for fans to watch on the defensive side of the ball is defensive end Jacarvis Anderson. Anderson had over 70 tackles with eight of those being for loss last season. Jonesboro has the pieces to be a dominant defensive front this season and fans can look for the Hurricane defense to stay aggressive. If the Jonesboro defense can continue to contain the opposing offense, then this will be a difficult team to contend with this season.
The Jonesboro Hurricane has the talent and the potential to be a dangerous team in the 6-A East. I look for the Hurricane to finish in the top two in the 6-A East and a playoff run is not out of the question this season. Jonesboro fans should expect to see another solid season out of the Hurricane in 2017.
