’17 Season Preview: Jacksonville Titans

Last season was a difficult one for the Jacksonville Titans. Jacksonville went 2-8 on the season and just had a difficult time sustaining momentum. Coach Barry Hickinbotham and the Titans are looking to take that next step, which will see an increase in the win total. The Titans will have some experience returning and has potential to snatch a few more wins during the course of the season.

The Titans’ offense had trouble putting points on the board last season. Jacksonville fans will need to keep an eye on running back Shawn Ellis this season. Ellis rushed for almost 600 yards last season and has the potential to have an even bigger season this season. Sustaining drives, avoiding turnovers, and executing in the red zone will be a focus for a team looking to improve on the offensive side of the ball. Titans’ fans should expect to see an improved offense and one that could help add a few victories to the wins total.

Jacksonville’s defense will have five starters returning for the 2017 season. The Jacksonville defense needs to find ways to get off of the field, whether it is force turnovers or simply force a three and out. The Titans’ defense has talent on the defensive side of the ball, but was left on the field quite a bit last season. A player for Titans’ fans to keep an eye out for on the defensive side of the ball is linebacker Kevin Fulton. Fulton racked up over 70 tackles last season and should have another big season from the linebacker position.

The Titans may have some struggles this season but the potential is there to increase the win total. It will still be a step by step process but, I don’t think it is out of the question for the Titans to snag a few more wins. A playoff berth may be a bit much to ask for, but an increase in wins should not be out of the question.
