’17 Season Preview: Conway Wampus Cats

The 2016 season was not an easy one for the Wampus Cats. Conway got off to an 0-5 start but recovered enough to make the playoffs. Conway finished the season 4-8 but managed to advance in the playoffs after defeating Rogers 35-20. Conway has plenty of experience coming for the 2017 season and a playoff appearance is a possibility.

The Conway offense has seven returning starters coming back on the offensive side of the ball. Running back Michael George will provide some punch to the Wampus Cats’ offense. George rushed for over 600 yards and punched the ball in the end zone three times. Conway has a solid running game and they have plenty of experience returning to make the offense very dynamic. Fans should look for the Wampus Cats to improve tremendously on the offensive side of the ball this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Wampus Cats have seven starters returning from the 2016 season. Conway’s secondary should be an impressive with Will Kennedy manning the safety position. Kennedy did a little bit of everything for the Conway defense including, blocking two field goal attempts, picking off passes against Little Rock Central, Rogers, and Little Rock Catholic, and amassing over 70 tackles on the season. The Conway defense should present a tough time for the opposition every Friday in the fall.

Conway may not win the 7-A Central this season but they should make the playoffs once again. Wampus Cats’ fans should look for both sides of the ball to be improved and for the win totals to increase. The Wampus Cats should look forward to a playoff berth and depending upon the matchups a playoff run in November.
